Our Story

In 2005, the organizers of the holding company Southeastern Bank Financial Corporation saw the need for a community bank in Aiken, South Carolina that could serve the growing financial needs of the area.  They began organizing what is today Southern Bank & Trust. 

As the newest subsidiary of Southeastern Bank Financial Corporation, the young community bank has benefited from the deep roots of its already established sister institution—Georgia Bank & Trust—Augusta's oldest local, independent bank.  From the beginning, the organizers chose the familiar blue shield as a visual means to mark the commonalities of the two institutions.  Namely, both banks share the core values of integrity, excellence and responsiveness as well as an unwavering commitment to excellence in service. 

Frank Townsend, the president of Southern Bank & Trust is openly optimistic about the institution’s future.  “We are excited about this unique opportunity to build a bank around the needs of the people in this community.”  Indeed, the possibilities are promising as Southern Bank & Trust builds a solid foundation of established bankers.
